Basic Keelboat Sailing – ASA 101

Yachting Vacations Sailing School

Get ready to hoist the sails and head out! Whether you have never sailed before or have sailed with others and want to go solo, Basic Keelboat Sailing (ASA 101) will teach you the fundamentals of sailing in a fun atmosphere. Classes are kept small—four or fewer students—so you can receive individual attention. Our ASA-certified instructors will be on hand to help you along as you learn the basics of sailing.

A few topics included in ASA 101:

  • Day sail planning
  • Getting the boat moving
  • Hoisting the mainsail and jib
  • Tacking and jibing
  • What makes a boat sail
  • Rescuing a crew overboard
  • Chart symbols
  • Knots
  • Stopping the boat
  • Docking
  • Dock lines and tying the boat up
  • And many more

As part of the ASA 101 course, you will receive:

  • The ASA sailing manual, Sailing Fundamentals
  • The ASA logbook to officially document your experience; and, upon completion of the course, an ASA decal showing your skill level
  • Upon completion of ASA 101, an official Yachting Vacations certificate to mount and show off to your landlubber friends
  • Ten percent off all future ASA classes with Yachting Vacations

The ASA 101 course is approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and the U.S. Coast Guard as a recognized Safe Boating Course. As such, it meets all requirements for mandatory education and licensing for every state in the United States.
